Klingon Batleth Swords
Klingon Batleth swords are the traditional “sword of honor” of Klingon warriors who are adept in martial arts. To the laymen, Klingon is one of the class characters in the science fiction, Star Trek.
According to the myths, the first Batleth was forged by Kahless the Unforgettable back in the 9th Century. Kahless pulled out a strand of his hair and threw it into the lava of the Kri’stak Volcano. After that, he took the burning lock and plunged it into the Lake of Lusor where he formed it into a blade. Kahless used the Batleth to fight the tyrant, Molor. This myth is never found in any literature and remained to be an oral lore among the Klingon clerics.
When Kahless died, the Klingon preserved the sword for 500 years before it was stolen by the Hur’q. Kor, Worf, and Jadzia Dax searched for the legendary sword but to no avail. However, rumor has it that either of the three actually found the sword but decided to abandon it in free space thinking that the sword might even cause the divide of the Klingon Empire.
Since then, Klingon Batleth swords have been made to use in combats. It is a crescent-shaped scimitar wielded with a three handhold hilt along the outside edge of the blade.
The traditional Klingon Batleth swords are approximately 116 centimeters long. The blades are made of baakonite weighing about 5.3 kilograms while the handgrip has a diameter of approximately 5 centimeters. It was designed by a martial arts expert, Dan Curry, who also choreographed the moves performed by Klingon warriors while using the Batleth in combat.
